Big R Fly Shop Flies tied by Tom Harman
October 21, 2010
Sam Wike
We had our meeting with Cortland fly lines who were once the kings of the fly line business.  They also produce the new Climax leaders which have had a great response in our shop with their 98% knot stregth promotion.  The new rep is Tom Harman, and he was the owners of Harman's Fly Shop in Sheridan on the Ruby River.  Harman's fly shop at one time boasted the most fly patterns in the state with 5,000 bins in a town you realize you are driving in to at the... A Fall Weekend
October 19, 2010
Erik Haugen
It's hard to decide what to do on a weekend in the fall. There are so many things that one can do. From hunting big game, or going after some ducks, taking the dog out for some pheasants, or deciding what river to go to and fish for some fall browns or maybe even head west and try one's luck at catching a steelhead.      This past weekend we decided to go try our luck. Now I will admit that I had pretty much written off Spey... Read more

Patagonia Capilene Underwear for Fall
October 15, 2010

We have been spending a lot of time working on bringing products with real applications for the mountain life, river bums, and ranch hands. These are products that we have tested ourselves (not just taken the companies word for it), and believe are truly superior to others out there. We have chosen products to try in the stores that have quality and performance charactoristics that apply to these "mountain" lifestyles. One of our newest... Read more

Local Tarpon Story by Rob Turner
October 12, 2010
“School of Tarpon coming towards us, Two o’clock!”. Hearing your guide say that never gets old… but it was about the tenth time I had heard it the past few hours and I hadn’t felt the tug yet. Nonetheless, I worked out some line and started false casting to a spot where I knew the fish would be moving through. This was a good school, eight to ten fish swimming near the surface, high and happy, which I later discovered meant they were more likely... Don't care for the taste of duck, do ya?
October 11, 2010
Rob Guevarra
I’ve been hearing how people don’t hunt ducks because they don’t like to eat them since I could walk. So last year a friend of mine who works at for the Reno Fly Shop invited my girlfriend and I to stay at his cabin at the Canvasback Duck club near Fallon, NV. I was probably more excited than my girlfriendabout the opportunity. This place is more than a standard duck club, these guys take waterfowl hunting to a different level. We stayed in a 400 square foot... Read more

Get your duck stamp... opening of Cast/Blast
October 1, 2010
Sam Wike
Opening day is Sat. for waterfowl on the pacific flyway.  Make sure you have your duck stamp, shotgun, streamer box, and 6 weight in the boat. The youth shoots the week before gave up limits.  Should be a good season.  Honkers are flying all day.  Pray for some cold weather this weekend (or at least not 80 degrees). Big R now has Mojo, Drake, Benelli, Beretta, Blackcloud, Quackhead, RNT, Duck Commander, Avery, and more waterfowl products on the shelf to get things... Read more
