Bass Fishing With Jimmy Houston
August 31, 2011
A couple weeks back now, Big R Fly Shop was lucky enough to go Bass fishing with Jimmy Houston in Ponderay, ID. He flew in from Oklahoma for the Grand Opening representing Duracell Marine batteries. The fly won that day but if Calvin would have tied a good knots or carried some spinner blades with him it would have been a different story. Calvin, I posted this video for you….. Watch and learn. A little something I picked up from Jimmy. Read more

Sun River has its days..... The fishing has been fairly good with dry flies and streamers this last week. Nymphing is staying consistent through the ups and downs. The river gets irrigated the crud out of. Otherwise it could be one of the best tail waters in the state. In a river that should be at a consistent 300cfs, watch as it will drop down to a slim 60cfs, at the hottest time of the year. There is alot that can be done to help.  How... Read more

Has Anybody Seen Fred Lately?
August 26, 2011
Unless you went up to AK and were lucky enough to go fishing with him, but nobody has come in here with River Monster pictures like this. What a lucky dog, he and his clients are catching Super Sized Rainbows and eating fresh fish....Everyday. If you follow him on his blog you will see some ridiculous sized fish posted. This might make clear your books for next year. I envy you Fred.  www.kenairiverfishingreport.com   Troutzilla Lives... 5lb Nut Roll
August 17, 2011
Sam Wike
Believe it or not... the salted nut roll is one of our best selling items.  We sell stock tanks of them (very farm store).  Hungry shoppers, fly fishermen, and workers combine their dollars day after day to purchase these bad boys 2 at a time.  This morning I received a special gift from our Big R Fly Shop in Ponderay, ID.  The package simply said "To Sam From Patty" (Patty is our store manager).  5lb's of salted... Empty Vise, Need Your Help!!
August 16, 2011
We try to get a new fly out to our beloved viewing audience every week. This endeavor proves to be quite the challenge, especially during the summer months when your friendly neighborhood fly guys are either out on the water, busy at the shop or out of town at a tradeshow, trying to keep the shelves and pegs stocked with the latest offerings from the fly fishing industry. Point is, we don't always have the opportunity to post fly tying videos. That's where you come in. Got a pattern... Read more

Modifying Your Store Bought Flies
August 11, 2011
Keaten Cornfed Labrel
Contrary to popular belief, the flies that you buy from your local flyshop are not always as effective as they’re intended. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of thought that goes into designing flies and most of the time they are intended to be fished during a specific time-frame or hatch. So what is meant by modifying your flies? Fly modifications can be as simple as trimming the length of a wing, to as complicated as adding materials to the fly. I began modifying store bought...
