Fly Tying Caves....
March 29, 2011
I would like people to email me pictures of their fly tying man/woman caves. Snap a shot of your room after a night of tying flies or how pretty and neat you keep it. We will compile all of the pictures and have you pick a winner.
Here is my tying room. It smells like a Sept. bird hunting trip gone bad and I can never find my scissors. I start to get mad when I can't swivel. Keep in mind; this is me trying not to scare off my girlfriend......

No Limit Kokanee Run on the Clearwater?
March 28, 2011
Our friend Ben Sidor sent this to us today.
Central Idaho anglers are enjoying a kokanee bonanza these days thanks to the inadvertent flushing of thousands of fish through Dworshak Dam into the North Fork of the Clearwater River below.
In response, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game immediately removed the bag and possession limits for kokanee in the North Fork Clearwater River and Clearwater River downstream of the North Fork in Clearwater County, effective through May 15.... Read more

Inspiration from Mitchard
March 24, 2011
I just felt the need to share one of the many entertaining emails I receive in a day from our friend Mitch or "Mitchard." He is in college at MSU Bozeman and studying/fishing his way to a degree. He attended one of our saltwater trips to Baja last year and has been an addict ever since... he fished before but now it's becoming an issue.
Paraphrased in his email included, "Margaritas, Squid Row, and Roosterfish are callin my name (and some other stuff... Read more

In search of Bigfoot and Steelhead
March 23, 2011
Anyone who swings a fly for steelhead knows of the fabled rivers on the Olympic Peninsula, the Hoh, Sol Duc, Calawah, and Bogachiel. With incredible runs of wild winter steelhead, these rivers are what we dream about. I was finally able to make it over for a short week to swing some flies, mostly on the Hoh and for a day on the Sol Duc. To say that it is a long drive is an understatement. Eleven hours to Seattle, an hour ferry ride, and 3.5 hours to the coast can drive... Read more

1 Minute of Motivation for the Weekend Here
March 22, 2011
Here is a quick little video from some random shots from the Missouri and the Bitterroot last weekend. KK spent 2 days on the Root last weekend, Erik fished the Missouri with Sam on Saturday, Justin and Sam fished the Bitterroot with Cornfed on Sunday and Belt creek after work Friday... so needless to say... it's been a long winter and the guys are excited to be getting out. Of course, it's snowing today...grrrr

This Has Nothing to do with Fly-fishing
March 19, 2011
Yeah this has nothing to do with fly fishing at all. However, this is just so ridiculous I thought everyone should be aware of it. While we in Montana get wrapped up in our trucks, here is new and ghetto in the mini van arena. Although, vans have been known to make pretty good steelheading treks over the years... maybe this family does fly fish. The dad does have a beard... and their is a brief coffee scene.

Justin Makes the Nevada Fishing Regs!
March 10, 2011
Our newest fly shop employee, Justin Olson has two favorites in the world of fly fishing; streamers and brown trout. Justin has cut his teeth learning how to catch big browns in Nevada and California on the Truckee River, and of course many other destinations in that area that he does not talk about much. I happened to be browsing through his Facebook pictures (little creepy on my part for sure) and he has caught and landed some large fish, and besides that, I don't... Read more

KK Gettin' it Done in Thailand
March 7, 2011
Montana Fly Company posted this photo of KK tying at the factory in Thailand. Wait til you see what shows up in the bins this year...
We had another great visit at our Chaing Mai factory from an MFC Signature Tyer. KrisKeller is amazing. He's known around here as "KK"...the girls in the factory especially love him. He recently visited for about ten days, and showed our tyers how to tie his patterns as well as the 20+ custom flies at Big R Fly shop... Read more
