Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'
May 28, 2011
Check out the flows on Belt right now. The creek isn’t as bad as some other places in the state. But as you can see in the pictures, it is about to knock the bridges out above and below the Sluiceboxes. If the one up by Monarch blows out, which it looks pretty darn close, it will really mess the float up through the canyon. Keep a good watch on it especially in the next few weeks as it starts to warm up… Read more

Rising Trout Cafe - Lewistown, MT
May 25, 2011
My dad and I had to make a family trip to South Dakota recently to our family's farmstead near Sisseton, SD. A long drive, lots of window time, and plenty of great conversation later we found ourselves back across the flat lands of the dakotas where we could finally see mountains again. In case you haven't driven across eastern Montana and the dakotas before, it's flat... not kind of flat, like between "Great Falls and Havre flat"... it's so flat that there is no... Read more

Big R Fly Shop Ponderay Stocking Shelves
May 24, 2011
Calvin and Tom, the guys behind the counter that have serviced the fly fishing community of Ponderay are now working a couple blocks away to set up Big R Fly Shop II in Ponderay, ID. Sandpoint (Ponderay) is home to both, and both have great passion for the fly fishing oppotunities the area has to offer. Lots of inventory has been pouring in the store and we hope to offer the northern panhandle a tuned fly fishing offering that hasn't been done before. Lots of feedback... Read more

High Water Worries
May 21, 2011
This time of year its easy for most people to talk them self’s out of going fishing and when it starts you hear about it everywhere, First with the local news hyping it way out of proportion by saying that every year the “flood of the century” is on its way, then the first person you know who sees a muddy tributary starts spewing this info to everyone they know. Soon everyone is back to golfing, knitting, rollerblading or whatever the heck normal people do waiting for the... Read more

Fly Shop Saturday Update 5-21-11
May 21, 2011
Good thing we are seeing some more rain. I think everything was really drying up after 2 or 3 days of no precip. However, fishing has been fairly consistent. KK is out fishing the lakes the next couple days and Justin has been out on the lakes and reservoirs as well and getting some good fish. We have been hearing more good reports right now from the Missouri right below the dam than we have heard in a while. Nymphing has been consistent with worms, fire bead... Read more

Fly Shop Saturday Update - 5-14
May 14, 2011
I fished the Mo last night late...got on the water about 7 and we did pretty well. Fished from the Dam to Wolf Creek Bridge, and it looked to me that most anglers from the day were fishing up in that area as well. Tons of midges on the water, as well as bwo's but the flows being 12,400 cfs seems to keep consistently rising fish inconsistent. Fish were rising in a few spots but for the amount of food on top of the water, it is obvious that the flows are affecting the dry fly... Read more

Waters in small creeks and streams around central Montana continue to rise, with some reported out of their banks as of Wednesday.
