Thanksgiving on the Mo
November 26, 2011
Sam Wike
I have a dilemma every Thanksgiving.  The time. Why do people eat at 2 o'clock?  What time did the original Thanksgiving take place?  I figure I have a day off on a perfectly sweet fall afternoon... in which I am very thankful for, and in which I very much want to go fishing.  So I want to be clear, I think it is a good thing to take a day to give thanks for all that we are fortunate enough to have... I just would like to do that on the river.  I am very lucky... Read more

K&K Derby Standings on Lake Pend Oreille
November 25, 2011
Calvin Fuller
Fishing has been pretty tough with un-stable cold conditions.  Now that things have warmed up a little fish are being caught.  Rain, Clouds, and Wind make for perfect fishing conditions on Lake Pend Oreille (pon-der-ay)  There have been some bigger fish getting caught by non-derby anglers, including two fish over 20 pounds.  Adult Rainbow Division Mark Torre 15# 8oz 321/2" Aboard SeaGull Charters Bert Dennett 13# 7oz 33 1/4" Aboard Kam Stalker Dennis... It Starts With The Fly
November 23, 2011
Fred Telleen
Who wants to learn to tie flies?  We can help.  Do you already tie, but want to learn some new techniques or get assistance with a particular pattern?  We’ve got resources.  We believe a Fly Shop should be an interactive place for sharing and learning, so we can all have more fun when we get on the water. Fly Tying 101 To start with, you are going to need the basic tools: A vise, a pair of scissors and a bobbin with thread. A bodkin or needle, a half hitch tool... Read more

St. Croix Imperial
November 22, 2011
Sam Wike
With lots of options now available in sub-$200 fly rods out there it can get really confusing on which rod to buy in this category for the consumer and for us as retail stores.  However, we have been asked a lot on why we don't carry certain brands in this price range and truly the reason is because we haven't found one that beats the St. Croix Imperial.  St. Croix had planned on moving the production of this rod to their new facility in Mexico which mimics their Park Falls, WI... Return to Effie Burger
November 21, 2011

The Issue:  After our tour through Washington, Erik and I got directed to make sure we end up in Lewiston, ID by 8 pm.  We were put on a team of Big R employees with the task of re-pricing every item in the D&B farm store in Lewiston with Big R Store price tags…yep… every single item (pretty much).  After 12 straight hours and one piece of Dominos we were pretty close to being done, pretty grumpy, hungry, tired, and frustrated to be inside with the Clearwater... Omak WA Trip Report
November 20, 2011
Sam Wike
Erik and I spent 1550 miles in the truck this past week scouting out theOmak, WA area to get ready for our new fly shop that will open this spring.  We met some great people, found some great food stops, and of course some really exciting fishing spots.  Tuesday morning we spent the day driving across Montana, Idaho, and Washington and finally arrived in Omak around 5:00 pm just as it was getting dark.  We stopped at the new store on Koala where the roof was going on the... Roaming Around Omak
November 16, 2011
Sam Wike
Erik and I rolled in to Omak last night around dusk, just in time to see the new store going up.  The roof is almost on, and we are praying there is no snow today so that things are not slowed down.  There is not a fly for sale, or a material, or a fly rod for sale in this town right now... so we plan to change that.  One of the construction workers said that huge triploids are being caught from the bank right now down by Chief Joseph.  We had two guy contact us last... My Best Salt Day to Date
November 15, 2011
Sam Wike
We had an epic trip down to Honduras this past week. 10 of us tuffed out lobster tail, Francisco the bar keep, Bonefish, tropical weather, our own private island, fresh Wahoo, and… sand flies. Yes the sand flies were rough but were a small price to pay for a week in paradise. For me, one day made my trip pretty amazing… November 5th, 2011 I woke up early to cloudy skies and 2 Bonefish cruising unbothered 10 feet from my cabin door. I shook my...
