Wing Shooters + Fly Tiers
October 31, 2011
Tis the season anglers, time to bulk up on your feathers for the start of the tying months. We have a really good opportunity as wing shooters and anglers to take advantage of the resources that are available. Great Falls and Ponderay (from what I have seen of Ponderay) are major fly ways and have a good number of upland birds around as well. Depending on how much you tie or how much a feather is applied to the fly, one bird can go a long ways. For... Read more

Fiberglass Manifesto - Scott Fiberhammer
October 30, 2011
I met Cameron from the Fiberglass Manifesto blog this year in New Orleans during the fly tackle dealer show... very briefly, and late at night. However, somehow I got his card that night, and last week after our trip to Idaho I was rifling through my cards that I had collected, and thought I would share some photos of steelhead trip since I had been using my fiberglass 2 hand rod called the Fiberhammer from Scott Fly Rods (10ft 6in 7wt). Check out the post here.
I had used the... Read more

Why do you fish?
October 27, 2011
The fly fishing industry has exploded in the past two decades around the globe. River access points are looking similar to mall parking lots, spots that were once known by few are now exposed, and quiet creeks running through private land are being explored like never before. This has created a grumbling, and sometimes feelings of animosity between many fisher people. Sports people are often clashing heads, as well as lines on the river, arguing over who has the right to be... Read more

Condit Dam Breached Today
October 27, 2011
The Condit Dam on the White Salmon River was breached today allowing water to run freely through the bottom of the dam. This opens up about 33 miles of Steelhead and Chinook spawning grounds. Next summer the rest of the dam will be removed and the area will be returned as close to it's natural state as possible. The Condit Dam is (was) 95 years old, and was originally built to supply power to a paper mill. The White Salmon River is a tributary to the Columbia River... Read more

Steelheading with our Better Half
October 24, 2011
Cornfed and I decided if we are going to continue to spend our weekends chasing steelhead, driving all night, eating unhealthy, sleeping at the cheapest options, and sporting campfire cologne… we should probably see if the girls would like to participate. So we drove to Idaho last weekend with dog, girls, spey rods, and boat for the weekend. I had spent the night tying some patterns with some of the new materials we had in the shop, and had accumulated 3 flies to add to... Read more

Attention all flash freaks and deal geeks!
October 21, 2011
We have the Cascade Crest Faux fox, silicon legs, and Krinkle flash. These products are as sexy as they sound. The colors range from Purple Haze to Root Beer. Made in the U.S of America, and very fishy looking. I would count on these materials to bring in lots of fish. Just a quick side note, we only have 2 Scott a3 rods left, and once they are gone, say bye to this steal. How does $179.97 sound to you?

Ponderay Fly Shop Coming Right Along
October 20, 2011
Erik and I visited the new fly shop up on Ponderay, Idaho this week and did some fishing with Calvin early in the morning. The fly shop is coming right along as we continue to tweak the fly selection, clothing, and tying materials specific to the area. Megan and Calvin have received lots of new inventory in the shop up there and are now working on merchandising tweaks and getting things dialed in and organized. They are also working with store manager Patty Arthur... Read more
