Gear Test : Strike Indicator Flies
June 29, 2012
Dry fly season is upon us here in the Northwest Rockies. With fishing looking up all day long it’s a good idea to put away the strike indicator and switch over to a high floating dry fly when you want to run a nymph rig. The problem is finding a fly that can suspend the type of nymph that is heavy enough to get down through fast currents quickly. I decided to run some very scientific tests on our popular indicator flies to see how much buoyancy they had.
The method was... Read more

Father's Day
June 14, 2012
Well it’s that time of year again. If you’re out and about trying to find the perfect gift for your father or husband, why don’t you get him something that he can enjoy for years to come? I heard an add on the radio while driving to work this morning about getting your father an ice cream cake for this father’s day. Now don’t get me wrong, I love cake just... Read more

Take a Kid Fishing for Free Fishing Day
June 8, 2012
Idaho's Free Fishing Day is an annual event held the second Saturday every June. All anglers, residents and nonresidents, can celebrate the day by fishing Idaho's waters without a license.
If you've never been fishing, Free Fishing Day is also a great day to learn. Fish and Game personnel and volunteers set up several free events at local fishing waters throughout the state to help first-timers discover the joys of fishing.
There are a limited number of loaner rods... Read more

Flow Bumps
June 6, 2012
Today while having lunch with one of our good friends Travis Morris with Brooks-Montgomery we heard good news in regards to flows on the Mo. As of noon today they will be increasing the flows by 3,000cfs. This will put flows around the 8,000ish mark by the end of the day. So why is this good news you may ask? High flows tend to create good environment for growing trout. Yes at times it can make the fishing less predictable, but that’s part of the fun of... Read more

New Flies
June 4, 2012
Just got an order from MT. Fly Co that I’m pretty excited about. Last winter a few guys around the shop were tossin around some ideas on tweaking the ever so popular Coffee’s Sparkle minnow. What we came up with is pretty special. Here she is; the Coffee Cat Kinked.
It’s tied on a jig hook to give it the action of a feeding minnow. We also incorporated a red tungsten bead in front of a black conehead to mimick a popular baitfish... Read more

Baja Report
June 1, 2012
Things have been extremely tough down here, the fishing I mean. The pool, drinks, food, weather, palm trees, etc is still awesome and stress is at an all time low. However, the fishing is tough. There are no Sardina so all the Roosterfish down here are only crashing huge 12-16" mullet which is very difficult to replicate with a fly. We are seeing lots of Roosters from the beach but not being able to get them to eat is maddening.
Bob Warneke landed... Read more
