Stories from Our Trips to The Bahamas

March 2008 -

This was our first time fly fishing in the Bahamas. We flew in to Nassau and met up with Ian from Yellowdog Fly Fishing there for a few days of fly fishing on Andros Island. Mt. Pleasant lodge is a great place to go for the do it yourself anglers which is exactly what we wanted to do. The flats at Mt. Pleasant our situated with easy walking distance from your room. In fact "Lodge Flats" is probably fishable from your front steps...and we did catch fish on the flat. Guides are available from Mt. Pleasant for trips to the west side to try for Tarpon or if you just feel like getting in a boat and going to some other surrounding flats for the day. The most famous flat at Mt. Pleasant is called "White Bite" which is a huge white sand flat with lots of Bonefish that are very easy to find and see...catching...well that's more difficult. However along the edges of "White Bite" flat holds areas with lots of grass and coral where the bonefish seem to feel more comfortable and are easier to get close to. We had hundreds of casts at Bonefish, Barracudas, and many other types of fish (boxfish, needlefish, snappers, puffers and more).

The Mt. Pleasant Lodge is great as well. Stacey, the manager of the grounds does a great job getting meals prepared for us for the day, coffee and breakfast is ready whenever we were, and dinners were great. The lodge and the rooms have modern furnishing with TV's, a fridge, and all the ammenities of home. Stacey and her family were a great host and we plan on returning in the future. If you are looking for a low key place to relax, catch some fish, and be a saltwater flats bum for a few days...this is the place.

Lots of Bonefish, great food, and very relaxing.
