I giggled a little and checked my calendar. Sure enough I was open either day. After going back and forth on which day to fish we decided the wind was going to blow less on the 27th. We met in Craig and sure enough the wind was only gusting to 25mph. Not too bad considering what I am listening to as I type. I launched the RO I strapped on a #18 Fire bead Sow bug with a Zebra dropper and a fire bead Ray Charles with some other orange-headed creature for a dropper. The weather was unseasonably warm and the wind was letting us play. I rowed to the wire (without gloves on) and quickly realized I am out of shape. Within a few casts Kyle boated a nice Bow. The takes right now are very subtle so the anglers sharpened there senses and after a bit proceeded to put a pile of nice fish in the boat. Slow, inside water was the key to our success. We switched gears at the Bull Pasture and tied on streamers. I suggested a slow tight retrieve and sure enough it worked. We finished the day with several nice steamer fish and a few we would have liked to inspect a bit closer. The bugger of the day was a white Marabou Clouser fished painfully slow. What a great day to wrap up the year! Thanks to Dale and Kyle for braving the weather and making it a great day.

See you out there!

In case you were wondering, fishing on the Mo. is really really good right now. I fished craig to spite hill yesterday and caught many nice browns and bows. Did dam to wolf today, and left really happy. I have not caught a whitey in a long time either... Im not sure if this is good or bad, but when you are only catching trout, and lots of them, it doesn't bother you to much I guess. Nymphing is incredible right now. Streamers are working better than decent, and drys are not worth trying, unless you happen upon a nice pod, which is hard to find in this wind. If you get bored watching bobbers, don't fret, because most of the time, granted you are in the zone with the right bugs, it will be under. Hot bead anything, scuds, zebras, pts, Lb's, you name it. If it looks tail water, its working. If you have been wondering if some of your ties will work, this may not be a good test. The fish are not being picky. When streamer fishing, minnow patterns, sculpins, leeches, bunny, and bou is all working. Thats a long list of bugs, so go with your favorite ones, and fish them hard. We have been pulling fish out of spots that usually don't hold fish like they are. I saw some walleye guys raise a few eyes today also. Everything is good here. Don't be afraid of the wind either, the fish sure aren't. Check the blog, report, and fly of the week later this week. I'll show you some bugs that they are gobbling, as well as give some incite on how you may want to fish them.
Warning! Unless you are in a skiff or LP style boat, drifting will not be easy today. I took Sam's Clacka from the Dam to Wolf Creek bridge last night. Under the dam was one of the only spots that I could anchor and hold, even with thirty plus feet of string out. Once the anchor would finally wedge, and I was able to fish, I was not complaining. In order to get a decent drift, anchor so the wind will cast for you. I did the best running controled drifts close to the boat. The fish seemed super hungry. They were present throughout the entire water column in the slow 'n soft stuff, and even eatting pretty hard around the surface. Hot bead stuff was my go to, but the mini (18's and 20's) copper john merked many fish when heads started showing up. Pink Ray Charles, and assorted czechs are a great choice if you are in doubt about what to use. My buddy Rielly, aka Harmon Killabrew, from Missoula was out on the water before I was. He was stipping streamers, and catching nice fish doing it. If you do decide to fight the wind, you will be rewarded. I'll be fishing on Cranksgiving day in 7-11 mph wind with temps around the mid 40's. Come in the shop and grab some bugs from us. While everyone is inside stuffing there faces, I would strongly consider feeding the fish. Do something new this thanksgiving, and take your friends and family outside. See you somewhere on the Mo. manana.
Be sure to look for reports coming in from Honduras this week from our staff and friends, and see what you are missing out on.

Urban Report: Fishing has been good with streamers in the knee deep runs. Cover a lot of water. John T was out on his new favorite urban run last night and got three nice rainbows stripping streamers. Paul was out as well in a different area... please ask him about his evening (comical).

We are headed up river here in the next hour so I'll post a more detailed report this evening for anyone headed out to the river tomorrow morning.

Cheers!
